Learning about the powerful Chaga mushroom*

Chaga grows as a mushroom on select birch trees.  It has developed a solid reputation as a  powerful anti-oxidant, and tool to support and strengthen the immune system. It has been used for generations, and has recently been touted as a defense against cancer. Recent research has shown the Chaga mushroom to be extremely effective in protecting cellular DNA from free radicals, and anti-tumor and immune stimulating benefits.  It is frequently brewed and drunk as a tea.

For Cancer Patients:

Memorial Sloan Kettering, the globally renowned cancer hospital,  promotes Chaga to its cancer patients, and lists the following beneficial uses:

  • To prevent and treat cancer
Laboratory and animal studies show that chaga can inhibit cancer progression. Studies in humans are needed.
  • To stimulate the immune system
Laboratory and animal studies show that chaga can activate some types of immune cells. Studies in humans are needed.
  • To reduce inflammation
Laboratory and animal studies suggest anti-inflammatory effects. A small study in humans also suggested a reduction in markers related to inflammation. Additional clinical trials for this use are needed.
  • To protect the liver
Although protective effects have been reported, these benefits have not yet been studied or confirmed.

For Patients with Lyme Disease and associated symptoms

Chaga is a powerful tool to support and strengthen the immune system, so that it can work to fight various symptoms, including those associated with Lyme Disease.  There is a long list of possible symptoms associated with Lyme disease, including joint and muscle pain, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, a wide range of digestive issues, and neurological conditions including confusion, dizziness, and loss of balance.  While antibiotics attempt to kill the different bacterias responsible for the condition, it's not always as straightforward as one might hope.   Chaga can also help the immune system better fight the various symptoms associated with Lyme Disease.
